Michiel Appelhof – Lawyer
Michiel Appelhof is a lawyer in the field of Corporate Law who specialises in assisting and advising companies. In addition to contracting, Michiel is involved in entering into, structuring and splitting up partnerships, including mergers and acquisitions. Michiel not only works out matters from a legal point of view, but he also thinks along with you at a strategic and business level. Although he doesn’t play chess, clients approach Michiel because of his ability to think several moves ahead.
Michiel’s approach can be characterised as pragmatic and result-oriented. Michiel quickly gets to the heart of the matter and searches for solutions that, in addition to being legally correct, must also be workable in practice – and he does not shy away from an out-of-the-box approach. ‘There is no such thing as a miracle solution, every case is different. Sometimes a situation creates opportunities that at first glance do not seem obvious, which is why I approach every case with an open mind.’
A significant part of Michiel’s work is internationally oriented. Michiel is very actively involved in Consulegis (www.consulegis.com), an international network of independent law firms with representation in 145 locations worldwide. In addition to sharing knowledge, Consulegis allows Marxman Advocaten to offer fast and reliable services everywhere. Michiel writes articles for Consulegis and is a speaker on current topics and developments during congresses.
In international practice, Michiel has a strong focus on China and is a representative from Marxman Advocaten in the China Collaborative Group (CCG). The CCG is an international network of legal and business advisories providing clients access of doing inbound and outbound investments and business with China. Michiel participated in the CCG Corporate Training in Shanghai, pursuant to which he became acquainted with Chinese corporate law, Chinese contract law and Chinese tax law. As a member of the Chinadesk from Marxman Advocaten, Michiel advised on legal issues related to China in both corporate and commercial practice, often within an international dimension. He also assists Dutch clients with interests in China, for example, when it comes to distribution agreements or relocating and carrying out production activities. Michiel also mediates and advises Chinese investors and Dutch companies with capital requirements. Michiel has been a speaker at investment conferences in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Chengdu. With an extensive network in China, Michiel is able to open doors and create new opportunities.
Michiel Appelhof has registered Corporate Law as the principal legal practice area in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister).
