Annelies graduated from Utrecht University in 1996, in Private Law, Economic Public Law and Corporate Law, and embarked on further law studies at Oslo University, Norway. This nurtured an interest in the Norse language, and she went on to study Scandinavian Languages at Amsterdam University. Since early 1997, she has specialised in business and insolvency law, completing Grotius Post Graduate Education in insolvency law with honours in 2003. She is a full Member of the Dutch Association of Insolvency-Law Attorneys (DIALA). In her leisure time Annelies enjoys playing sports, particularly inline skating, cycling, winter sports and mountaineering.
