Joost graduated from Leiden University in 1995, in Civil Law and Corporate Law. Beginning his legal career in Arnhem in early 1996, he completed the Grotius Post Graduate Education in labour law in 2001. He joined the Employment Division of Trenité Van Doorne in Amsterdam, gaining extensive experience in the field of business and employment law. He is a member of the Amsterdam branch of the Association of Labour Law Attorneys, and is a frequently published author in the field of labour law. In April 2011 Joost was elected board member of Consulegis, the largest international network of more than 1.700 lawyers in more than 150 cities and 42 countries in the world. Joost likes to spend his free time with the family, cooking, playing sports and is a film buff.
